Shakira Pitjara Patrick is an Alyawarra woman from Alice Springs.

Shakira was born in Alice Springs on 9 January 1998, where she lives today. She has also lived on the Irrultja outstation northeast of Alice Springs. She speaks Alyawarra and English, and can also understand Warlpiri. Shakira has one daughter, Lashani, born on 20 May 2014.

Yarla is the name of a plant that bears potato-like tubers and is a low growing bush with beautiful pink flowers. In the Dreamtime two old men, Jakamarra and Jupurrula sat down and shook a sacred rock in Yamaparnta (country near Yuendumu) from which grew a yarla plant, the ancestor of all the plants now found there.
